FLY FISHING Chile
is a destination for lovers of fishing around the world. The miraculous nature
is irresistible. The local geography has a huge variety of rivers, with characteristics,
sizes and shapes that are wonderful habitat for various types of trout and salmon
introduced almost 100 years ago in the country. This is the reason why Chile is
considered one of the best areas to enjoy fishing.
The quality of the
species, the purity of water and powerful nature that surrounds each fishing sector
speak in silence for those who love this sport.
You can practice it from
the Antofagasta region to the edge of Tierra del Fuego. However Patagonia is the
one with a well-earned global fame for the practice of this art. Its waters have
captivated anglers from around the world to cross the planet to be photographed
with a piece and then release it in the river nominated in the category "catch
and release".
Some species that normally are available in Chile are the
rainbow trout, from the Central Zone to the south, the brown trout from the Region
of Valparaiso to the Magallanes region, the coho salmon in rivers and lakes of
the Los Lagos, Aysén and Magallanes regions and finally, if you're lucky, you
can fish chinook, or king salmon, a real monster of the Chilean waters, which
lives mainly in Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego .
Lonquimay:
This is a commune with spectacular surroundings, offering a wide variety of opportunities
to practice fishing.
Within a radius of 100 kilometers are several alternatives:
Galletué lakes, Icalma Mariñanco, Jara and rivers Bío-Bío, Rahue, Polul and Lonquimay.
In early season, the imitation of streamers and nymphs are most effective.
Since mid-December onwards, dry flies come to front, which implies a more
technical fishing that tests the knowledge and experience of the fisherman. At
all times very strong fish try to escape.
There are several areas where
wading requires no difficulty, however, to access the best fishing, it is necessary
to use the catarraf, a comfortable boat that sails swiftly in the hard places.
In these sectors the best parts are hiding. Lonquimay is located 156 km from Temuco,
the route-Curacautín Lautaro and 186 kilometers down the road Curacautín Victoria.
Both routes are fully paved until Lonquimay .
Valdivia: Folilco
sector is ideal for fishing with dry flies and perfect for the classic fishing.
The clear waters are very attractive for fishing wading. The rivers have constant
hatching and large trouts, highly selective, but not easy to catch as many lures
have seen over the years in the beds.
Maullín River: the only drain
of Llanquihue Lake, in the heart of the Lakes' Region. Sometimes it is completely
covered in its banks by vegetation, comprising forests of myrtle and other species
of aquatic places. The river has a great population of healthy and competitive
trouts, mainly brown trouts and a little fewer population of rainbow trouts. Sometimes
you can also fish salmon or attractive farionelas. One of the great attractions
of this river is the possibility of catching brown trophies without the need to
travel to remote places. t is not uncommon to achieve 5 kilos fishes in the most
deep river. Fishing is done mostly with large streamers and less with nymphs.
Dry fly fishing can be done in the evening.
Coyhaique: The city
of Coyhaique is surrounded by numerous bodies of water, most of them with excellent
fishing. The fishing spots are in one hour traveling by the land.
Simpson
River: Located in the Aysen area it is 40 kilometers long and is probably
the best known place in the region. Internationally it is considered a true fishing
paradise. Its population of brown and rainbow trout varies between 35 and 55 cm
in size. The river is famous for its large hatches of caddis and mayflies. In
the months of January, February and mid-March, you can see great comebacks of
chinook salmon, and most of them exceed one meter in length.
Emperador
Guillermo River: This river has an outrageous number of trout daily.
Ñireguao
River: It has been rated by connoisseurs as "the best river for trout fishing
in South America". The average size of trout is from 40 to 45 centimeters and
it may even reach 60 or 70 centimeters .
Cisnes River: With over
80 miles long, it rises near the border with Argentina and empties into the Pacific
Ocean. At the top there is an abundant population of brown trout. Chinook salmons
come back to its waters in the months of February and March.
Paloma
River: it rises in Desierto Lake and empties into Caro Lake. It has beautiful
brown and rainbow trout, whose average size is between 35 and 55 centimeters.
Los
Fiordos: It offers a fascinating fishing. In the area of Los Fiordos there
are numerous rivers that flow into the sea where you can catch large rainbow trouts
(they normally achieve 2 or 3 kilos). There are also beautiful farios.
Tierra
del Fuego: The Rio Grande is considered the greatest river in the world to
fish the migratory brown trout. Each year hundreds of anglers from around the
world fill out the existing lodges on both sides of Chile and Argentina border.
The river rises in the peat and also feeds the lakes Lynch, from Rivero and White
rivers. It has a length of 220 kilometers and its waters are light brown transparent.
The first half of the river runs through Chilean territory inside the huge Estancia
Cameron.
